Nature just told me I had the wrong job.

I've been fired today !
If my memory is not too destroyed by my psychedelic youth, I think that's the first time in my life. For economical reasons they said !
This was a shitty job anyway, something like answering the phone all day long and "creating" customized birth cards with customers on Xpress. The only good part with this job was that I was also selling them my own cartoons when they needed new birth cards.
I still have to work there for a month, don't know yet if I will.

And now for some Machinima news !

I did not even had to upload it ! That's great.

As the Baron, I also had a mail from the Dragoncon film festival :

Dear Machinimist,

We're pleased to inform you that Never Stay Tuned (Part 1) has been selected for screening during the primary screening segment at the 2007 DragonCon Film Festival's first annual Machinima Segment! In addition, I'm Only Sleeping been selected for screening during the additional screening segment! "


Splendid ! Great ! I wish I could go to Atlanta to see my movies on a 15 ft screen. Thanks againt to Christina Rollins who's in charge of the machinima segment.

Do you remember my Michael Jackson issue ?
Well, I had an answer from Moritz Hirchenhain and the Bitfilm Festival.
Believe it or not, it was close to my imaginary hippie answer and so, I sent them "I'm Only Sleeping" and the press kit. I know that's risky, but the moment somebody says "this is very risky" is the moment things becomes very attractive to me.

Will I go to Hell before going in court ? Time will tell.

I just received an email :
"Congratulations! Your film The Beatles, I'm only sleeping has been selected for the official competition of the Bitfilm Festival. It's been a tough decision to choose - we are once more overwhelmed by the high quality of the entries. "


That's pretty cool and I was quite happy for about half an hour.
Then I realized something. I decided to write a letter to the assistant director Festival :

Hi Moritz,

First, thanks a lot for the selection, when I submitted "The Beatles : I'm Only Sleeping" I 'd never thought one day I'd have a movie in a festival, you made my day.

But... There's one small thing that bugs me since I received your mail.

I'm not Michael Jackson.
It may be a good thing for my baby daughter but when it comes to own the Beatles copyrights it sucks badly.

As a lam first timer, I've read the rules of the contest about an hour ago and found this :
By submitting a film you declare that you have all the rights on the submitted works and that you accept full liability if any third party's rights are violated.
That's the exact moment I realized I was not Michael Jackson.

What if he is in Hamburg during the Festival ?
I think he might love the movie and want to hire me, but what if I'm wrong ?
What if there's is copyright issues ?
I know that would be my problem and not yours, but what I need to know is how do you fell about it ?
Do you think there's a chance John Lennon realise he was violated and summons Michael Jackson to sue me ?

Please tell me because the idea of being part of the Bitfilm festival is huge to me, I just want to know if the chances I get myself into hell are also huge.

Twice a year there's a big gnome party on my server, this is one of them.



This one was a party we did for a raid friend , Tiala, she was getting married and so she needed a party.
This was supposed to be a girl party, at the end every males of the raid came naked to say hello to Tiala.



The last one was my attempt to make a PVE movie in Molten Core...

I had two babys in a row and now I feel empty. But no more moronic complaining emo poetry, I hope imagination is gonna bone my cortex soon !

Little White Poney Inn was movie of the day on WCM and this is always a good news !
Feedback is decent, people seems visually surprised but not that entertained by this short plot and weird story. I'll see what the jury thinks about it in the end of september.

Now that NST2 is done, that the contest movie is done too, I 've got nothing better to do than kill some gnomes and reach lv70 with my roguette. Don't know when I'll be editing again, certainly as always, when an idea will come and refuse to leave.

I'm still having a hard time with Vegas that now freezes during rendering.
Once this movie will be done, I'll take the time to find a solution.

Edit 2h24am : Subtitles will not be for tonight, Vegas refuses to work. But french is quite simple to learn, by the time I figure out what's happening to my computer, you'll read Jules Verne in french !

I'm not fond of Aerosmith but I've spend the day in St Tropez and
I saw people today with sunglasses that cost what I can earn in a decade if I stop making machinimas and get a second job.

BTW, if you're rich, reading this on your Alienware laptop while the yacht is leaving the pier, I badly need a decent computer, so if your old one is just good enough to play Doom3 full options on, don't throw it down the sea !

Almost done, I just have to finish the "older, much older but still looking good" effects, photoshop the texts that will show when they speak (french and english). I'm having a lot of problems with Vegas these days, sometimes I have to redo from start, my projects become corrupted (red timeline)... I hate that.

The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once.

I'm fighting with time today.
The movie should not be longer than 3 minutes and I just realized that it's quite difficult to tell a story in 3 minutes. So I try a lot of different things, not sure yet what it will give.



Oh no ! Not the scene with the plane, you were not supposed to see that.
Anyway, it's going quite fast.
I'll listen to the Baron's advice and go hunting for nice musics and background sounds in the WoW folder, the whole thing could be short but pretty boring without sounds. ( At first I just wanted a projector sound...)

A comedy horror silent movie...

I think I know where to go with this next movie, it does not really make sense with words, so I'll stay silent.
You'll have to imagine this image in black and white looking like 1920's movies, I'll edit the whole thing then I will add effects.
I guess.
I might be too curious to see what's the final result while I'm still editing.
I want it to be a silent movie because I want to play with expressionism kinda light and general look. But this is for a contest, and one of the 5 rating categorys is "sound design"...
So maybe will I cheat, put a few sounds fx and music from the game... Dunno yet.

Now, the Stage 6 incident !!!!!

I have checked the Stage 6 forum, lot's of users have this problem of video dissapearing without having any more explanations, mails after emails...
So I tried to upload it again, and it refuses... I tried to upload another movie, it works... So I'll find a way to get it online. But I'll not know the reason why they took it away... Bandwith ? The too scary UDMTV ? The gay Draenei Inn Uranus ? Or maybe one of the moderator is the son of a chicken... I'll never know, and I hope this wont happen again.

Never Stay Tuned 2 is now living it's own life far away from dad.
People are rating it a bit everywhere, no sign of rejection for the moment.

Now I got to seriously think about what's next...
I mean, the french machinima contest that closes at the end of the month.
I'll try to make something in black and white without voices or foleys. Maybe not even music just the sound of an old projector.
It's should'nt last more than 3 minutes, not be psychedelic att all, so when I'll know precisely what to do, it will be edited quite fast I guess.

NST2 is finally done, I could have add one or two sequences but time is ticking and I got a french machinima contest for the end of the month^^.

Well this time I think I got it right. There's a gun and some girls in NST2.
I've just spend hours making the credits, and as it is rendering right now since 90 minutes, I can see in the preview window one or two things that make me wanna work on it a bit again.



I wanted to have the TV showing every sequences in front of the credits, so it's a cruel job for my humble PC that has something like 10 video layers to compute while I still need to surf the Internet.


So, now that NST2 is almost inside the oven, let's see what thoses guests sequences smell like !





Mmmm.. I can tell you that smells really good !

So I still have to make the final cut with the credits, create a movie icon, write a presentation, render the whole movie in high definition, see how much that weight, render one or two lighter videos maybe if it's too heavy, upload it at 16Mo/sec on WCM, render the Stage6 divx, render an ugly one for YouTube, upload both.

I did the dwarf scene audio today.
It took more time than I thougt, I had to make chicken noises and shout insanity trying to sound like a dwarf... I don't know if my social life will be the same anymore.

As I still had a couple of hours I also did two very very short clips. Once of them is about a famous Ogres singing band from Mosh'Ogg and the other about one of those stupid TV games on ROX.


I'll decide tomorrow if NST2's done or not yet. I have to watch it several times and move parts till I find the good rythm or not. ^^

I told a doctor today that sometimes at night I was snoring. I was forced to. Next thing I know, I have a 16 inches flexible tube sticked up into my left nostril.
All this hell just to hear him say that everything was OK.

Chicken hater !

This dwarf is certainly crazy.

I've been spending the evening with him and I can tell you he's a lunatic. Everytimes he sees a chicken, he shoots. Everytimes there's no chickens ? He runs till he finds one...There must be a reason for that.

Today was full of headaches trying to find, with the help of the Baron, a way to upload my shitty .wmv movies in beautiful Divx for Stage 6. It worked for Never Stay Tuned and I'm Only Sleeping. So I'll try again tomorrow for thoses who failed at released.



I think I still have 2 other sequences to do and of course finish the audio of this dwarf scene.

A nice monday, editing an entire sequence with a stupid orc using a machine to get clever.
I decided that the orcs would only speak with "ka kh ki ko ku" sounds, so i've lost a lot of credibility recording it at home.


I still have problems getting a clean voice recording, at the end once the noise gone, it always look like comming out of a metal tube full of cotton. I can still pretend it's an artistic choice as long as I did not press the "publish" button of this message. I'll think about it.

I've spend my evening and a bit of the night editing on a GREAT dancehall reggae music with a couple of trolls at Yojimbo Island for NST2.
It's quite relaxing ! :D
This time I've been trying a new method. Yesterday night I did the model capture then I edited the whole clip without any background.
Tonight I've been hunting landscapes in the game itself fitting my captures and I've finished this short sequence.


I like this way of working since it makes me able to focus first on character animations and action than on images composition that comes second.
But I will not use it too much because I'm sure it leads to redundancy, but once in a while it could be useful.

Oh, and I'll never use again clothes with green+red+blue colors because it's really hard to chroma key ^^.

Finally I'm on vacation ! I dont realize it yet because it's friday night and that's just an average end of the week for the moment. I've just put my hands on the last 5 episodes of LOST 3 so I guess tomorrow night wont be a very creative one. 8)
