Ahh steam and their special sales. They made me buy GTA IV for the second time but not to play the game on PC(I must have played for about 200 hour son PS3). There is a machinima tool in-game that allows you to capture games data and to edit them later with a scripted camera and several effects. Man if only every game on earth could have this amazing feature... Blizzard ! We need tools !!!
Even if GTA IV camera tool is a wonderful toy, there's no way to animate actors or even to choose them. So telling a story is quite difficult and I don't think I'll machinimate with GTA IV again. Or maybe just to have gnomes in New York.
I made this machinima in 15 hours, the same amount of time it takes sometimes to make 20 seconds with WoW.
Yep, we need tools.

The 4 of us won the Grand Prize at the Blizzard - Alienware machinima contest.

And what that mean is $2400 to buy an Alienware computer, and THAT means
longer, better, faster, stronger MACHINIMAS !!

The overall quality of WoW machinima is going sky high and I'm certain people at Blizzard are amazed, watching the 3 other winning videos and also many entries makes me think I was quite lucky with this contest. Everyone gave it his best, that was a freakin tough competition. And something tells me that things are gonna get worse for the next big contest.

Knowing that such a monster is gonna soon hide under my desk is really sweet and motivates me for my next movie. Caruu started working on a wicked score, voice actors did an outstanding job. The only reason why the project is paused is me. I got a ton of IRL work to do before summer (150 flash animated ecards and a T shirt collection ). So when comes the evening my head is quite full and so watching movies or playing video games definitely win versus after effects. But this new machine will certainely make after effects look more sexy than my laptop does.
So, more news soon !

April 2007,

It was machinima fever, I was working on my movies almost day and night. If there's a band I can listen to all day long, it's The Beatles. I heard this song while working on The Bull Gnome, started to have images coming and decided to make a music video. I spent a very long time on this one, the kaleidoscopic scene alone took me more than 30 hours, but it was so damned fun to do and I was so proud of the result. Sony Vegas was now my favorite software ever, I was not even playing WoW or any video games anymore, had no time to.

A few month later, I was selected for the BitFilm festival machinima section.

It feels very good the first time one of your work is selected.

When the result came out and I saw that this music video won the first price, it took some times for me to realize this was for real.

I've been invited to the ceremony in Barcelona.

Just when I came out of the train, a pickpocket took my wallet... and there I was in Spain, without a single coin to spend and no credit card.

The Bitfilm crew took me to my hotel room, that was in fact a very small room with no door in an old squat. Probably the dirtiest place I ever slept in even if I was used to punk squats in France. But it was feeling great anyway, me and my cockroaches friends were ready for the ceremony.

Even if this festival was just about pretending to be something big on the web with the lowest budget possible on any other feature, I had a great time and came back home with a random plastic robot toy as a trophy and a signed color photocopy certificate.

Later, the city of Hamburg that was sponsoring the event gave me an unbelievable €1500 check!

With my brand new Sony Vegas knowledge, I wanted to try something more cinematographic. Why not a parody of The Elephant Man trailer?

I was really starting to have a lot of fun making machinimas. With this video, I wanted to make sure everything I planned was possible. The balck and white was a very pleasant experience and I was feeling more confident with voice acting. Later I'll realize that asking pro actors is way better. But back in April 2007, I was quite proud of my performance.^^

I've been a LOST fan till the very last episode where I felt like this show was one of the biggest waste of time of my life. Not the time I spent on watching it, but the time I spent elaborating theories when the writers were just slowly screwing us without any idea where they were going to.

So in April 2007, I was still thinking this show made any sense and I wanted to make a parody out of it. For the first time I needed voice acting, I decided that I could try to do this myself. I was not sure that people would understand a single word so I subtitled the whole video in English. WindowsMovieMaker was history, I now was working with Sony Vegas and for the first time, I was chroma keying characters on a background. It was like magic to me and changed forever the way I was making videos. This was my very first attempt at telling a story, I had to write a script!!!

Had this song stuck into my brain, running in circles... I did this machinima as an exorcism to get rid of this musical curse! I also wanted to speed up things a little with this one, I needed to see what I was able to do with some dance music. I played around with the WowModelViewer weird options and the video was done, after 10 hours of editing. I started uploading my previous movies to WarcraftMovies.com the same week and OMG... I got featured. Comments were quite good and for the first time I had thousands of viewers... Unbelievable. I was so motivated after this!

I don't know why but with many German viewers, this video was also one of my first Youtube success.

Now that everyone in my raid knew about my videos, I asked for some help. This time I realized that this virtual movie set that is WoW was full of actors! This was my first and maybe the last time I shot ingame actors. Directing a bunch of people in a 3D environment using TeamSpeak while holding the camera and recording the sequences I needed was not something I enjoyed much. Mostly because there's no room for imagination when you got so many things to do at the same time. I guess that's why cinema directors work with a technical crew. The music choice came while watching "There's Something About Mary".

There's this famous scene where Ben Stiller is in the toilet, taking a piss while looking at a couple of doves on a branch through the window. The music making this sequence a "perfect moment" just before everything goes totally wrong is "Close to you" by the Carpenters. I heard this song many times before but this time it was stroked by it's funny side and I decided to toy around with it. I was still working with an unregistred FRAPS, WindowsMovieMaker and Photoshop.

Right after the very local success of my first machinima, I discovered WowModelViewer and decided to make another music video. The song "Borderline" is by Philippe Katerine a weird French artist I really like.

Song is about routine, the sum of all the little things that happen every day at the same moment, things that can drive you crazy if you start thinking about them too much. Challenge was to find everything I needed in both WoW and the viewer to picture the lyrics. This video was made one night in about 6 hours.

The subtitled version was uploaded a bit later, when I thought that maybe someday there might be people around the world running into my Youtube Channel.

The Urban Spaceman

Summer 2006, there was no raid in my guild that night and I was feeling a little bored.

Surfing the internet I found a link to FRAPS and realized that my computer was good enough to capture ingame videos.

This was a low quality but brand new PC, my first PC. I bought it just to be able to play WoW decently, with my good old Mac G3 733mhz I was getting 1 frame every 3 or 5 seconds in Ironforge and going to the auction house was taking me like half an hour.

I also discover that evening that Windows Movie Maker was already on my PC!!
So I decided to make a music video about my main character : Olibith. The music choice was easy, as a Monty Python absolute fan, I picked "The Urban Spaceman" from Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.
4 hours after, the video was done and I was pretty proud of myself. I uploaded it to my Youtube channel and linked it to my raid forums.

As people were enjoying the video, I decided to make another one someday.
So expect low quality, FRAPS watermark, cursor showing, well... every single n00b stupid errors possible.

Back to editing, recording voices !
An horror movie parody featuring the KFC dwarf and some fucking chickens.
If you're not connected to my FaceBook page (which you really should do as I'm more and more lazy about this blog and more and more active on useless status updates) the script is now written and the lines have been sent to the voice actors.
I never spent so much time writing a script and drawing the story board... This really is the hardest part for me, I really hope this time I'm on a solid ground with this story.
Caruu will write the score of the movie + the whole sound design !!!
This is the first time he'll be composing for a movie and I'm quite honored. From what I already heard, this is gonna be awesome !!

It worked !!!

There will be GNOMES PRIESTS in World of Warcraft next expansion Cataclysm !
After years and years of struggle, Gnomes can finally heal ! And that is a great great news, especially for Gnomes in a Gnomes only Guild !
I really feel sorry for the Horde that will now have to deal with Goblins... But this might be the end of the Gnome hate.
We still have to get our Gnomeregan city back to see the end of terrorists attacks though.

Talking about terrorism and Gnomes, "Le Terroriste" has been nominated for Best Machinima Award at the BitFilm Festival 2009. You'll have to register there in order to vote for your favorite machinima.

Warcraft Movies and the OMG feeling !

Genna A Bain was interviewed by James Harding and Matt Rider of the WoW Wednesday Show on ESL TV. They asked many questions about voice acting in machinimas and also about NST4. They even showed some sequences of the machinima (NST4 and interview starts at 13:00)

A poll on my FaceBook page says that 75% of the people who answered would like my next machinima to be a French music video with the KFC Dwarf family. So be it.
Don't know yet when I'll start but it might be done much faster than NST4.

As I was waiting for guest sequences, Teh Baron came with an evil idea and I HAD to do it.
This is not the first time the guy gives me abnormal ideas that are so wicked that I instantly feel an urge to machinimate them..

So yep still waiting for sequences from guests, but some sequences have a lot of special effects in them. Technology is not always friendly with people torturing computers with heavy renderings. But believe me, it badly worse the wait.

First, let's start by Universal Music Group. They wrote me a nice email to let me know that they were taking down Never Stay Tuned 2 on Youtube for copyrighted reasons... I love you too guys even if you're too stupid to notice that this kind of videos can only bring you more money.
4th of my works they decide to erase.

Do you think they would erase my videos for sex content ?? Nah...

I really hope my next post here will be Never Stay Tuned 4.
The end is near, I even started the ending credits. I got 2 more sequences to edit and it will be done

Never Stay Tuned 4 is going fine even if nights are not long enough to edit and sleep.
Getting a lot of ideas and help from friends and it really feels great.
My main fear is to forget someone in the end credits, so I try to note down everything.

This sequence is a total secret there's not a single chance you could guess who made it.

Sequences are a bit longer than in previous NST so now I got to work on shorter ones from now on to keep it dynamic. But as I started a 15sec parody tonight, it now last more than 30 seconds... And I'd better join the AEA "After Effects Anonymous" because even if I try hard, I can't go back to 100% Vegas and edit a sequence a night like before.

Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is purley coincidental.

Not much to say that I did not say yet, this NST4 already took me more hours than the previous ones and I'm not done with it yet.

It's been a while since I blogged about NST4, not enough time mostly because of the video itself.
Some guests canceled, one of them is head over hills in love and the other had a baby to take out of her body (GG she's perfect !). Other guests look like they're gonna make it in time as you can see right here !

Fact : everytime a Paladin dies in Azeroth, a butterfly takes a shit in Northrend.

I told you I planned on recreating a set in 3D with screenshots from a ps3 video game.
Well I did and it worked !!!

Life's a box of snakes

The result is beyond what I needed even if it took a lot more time than expected. And that is the main problem now, time. I decided to go back to faster editing method for the rest of NST4 because even if After Effects makes badass scenes, but it also make me wanna freeze time or quit my job and both are not reasonable things to do. So once I'll be done with the 2 sequences I'm editing right now, I'll go full Vegas and try not to think about what could have been done better in AE... Let's pray it will work.

Woody is back, and even if he looks a little creepy, he is a nice dude.

Still having fun with CrazyTalk, even if sometimes I distort faces a little too much. But the WoW /talk animations are so old now that I think I don't have any other choice. And it makes talking scenes less boring to watch, so I can add more dialogs.

Politicaly incorrect would be the best word to describe what nst4 looks like right now, it was not anything I decided but I guess that's how I like entertainment.
There might be some people who will be shocked by some scenes, but according to many reviews, they already were shocked by my movies even when I thought it was just funny.
So... I don't give a murloc's ass.

He seems LOST...

Well... Tonight I'm supposed to end a sequence, but I need to create a smoke with particles (who said black smoke ?) As the smoke layer is slowing down After Effects too much, I have to render it in good quality. That's what is happening right now... So I decided to post some pictures but as I need to keep some secrets, I can only afford 2 more screenshots.

What was that promise that you made ?

New microphone arrived and it works perfectly !
I was waiting to record lines, (2 gnomes and سعيد جراح.) It's excellent. even if there are some little background house noises, it records a clear and clean voice. Very nice microphone.

There's this PS3 game where you can find a camera and take pictures that become jpegs on the PS3 hardrive. I plan on trying to take some pictures, maybe just walls, grounds, textures and machinimate a spoof of the game. But it's been a long time since I played it and I hope my game saves are still there.
Looks like the rendering is almost done, for 10 seconds of video it took 90 minutes to render.

My Troll road movie sequence is done ! And it was a big chunk with 28 different scenes for 37 seconds !
Eriyanna sent me a link to an ESL TV show called, WoW wednesday, where she and I were mentioned !

Another week, another sequence. This time it will be about special powers and time traveling. Another big chunk coming next.

Lil' gnomes on the hillside, lil' gnomes made of tasty yummy

Feels good to work again with Awilo, always ready for some action and this Troll really is hungry for art. This clip is now almost done, nope this is not YumYum TV nor UDMTV but some will say it's just a mix of both. Nope, this is much more than that, actually it's a mix of both plus N3RD TV. After Effects is like magic glue, what took 5 minutes in Vegas now takes an hour with AE without counting the new ideas that comes in the process and that I got to try before going to sleep. Ahh... Sleeping... overrated.

I've been working with new voice actors recently on the very first sequence of NST4, Eriyanna and Druox. They both did an excellent and hilarious job and I'm so gonna need their talents again soon.
I always wanted to have a proper microphone to record my kakekikoku kakeki kako and other bouyaka sankhalua, so I asked around and Caruu pointed me a great and simple solution I could afford.

It was about time I had something a little more pro than my headset mic

I just had an evening to test and check it's amazing quality compare to my old mic and then it started to make a freaking strange click/pop sound every seconds... So I tried everything to understand WHY... And it looks like there's a hardware problem with it. It will travel back to Germany soon and I hope next one will work just fine... That, for example, the click sound is not coming from a neighbour's brand new iron lung or something.

Concert has been put back...

Well... I've been thinking about this, a lot.
For the first time since I machinimate, I'm stuck into something too big. I've been working on this concert video since now 2 month and only 2 minutes are done, I mean almost done.
1 minute/month for a 12 minutes concert at least, that would mean more than a year.
Filming a real concert is just about having a lot of cameras and then smart editing. The 3 /talk emotes of my singer is clearly not enough to keep people watching for 12 minutes, so it needs a lot of ideas and a lot of special effects to keep it watchable. Add to that the fact that with a private machinima server and texture changing it takes me, after a daily training, 1 hour to recreate from scratch the scene and everything around before I can do anything...

As it will take ages to machinimate I decided to pause the concert. I'm not giving up, I'll work on it little by little. That's the only way if I don't want to make a video with repetitive scenes and a boring experience for the viewers.

Ok, so ? What's next ? My mental notebook was about to explode so maybe was it time to start editing Never Stay Tuned 4

Some guests already started to work, and I cannot wait to see those sequences, once again they have total freedom inside the concept of wow channel surfing. Here's a screenshot from a guest sequence, I will not tell you yet who he or she is. All I can say is that it is hilarious.

After effects basics were laborious for me but little by little I start toying around now. This crowd starts looking better and I just started recording panoramic scenes.
As I'm now in charge of any AE project at work, I can practice and watch tutorials when things are quiet. So sometimes, at night, I don't feel like machinimating at all.

So I relax and do some Photoshop instead !

AE is not that scary after all (in nOOb mode).

Just a lil' post to tell you that the concert progresses at the speed of a dying snail on a cheese grater in Sahara. After trying many different ideas to film a crowd with a panoramic move, the only way that seems to work here is After Effects. But even with AE, this is something that would need a computer from the Nasa. So I will have only a dozen different layers (with several characters on it) and not 100 like I first tried. ^^

A movie without a Sony Vegas lens flare FX is and will always be a failure.

Tonight was the first time I had the chance to properly visit the Horde side of Dalaran.
I wanted to pay a visit to Awilo Lon'gomba, Grand Master Cooking Trainer, my all time favorite game Non-Playing-Character in the galaxy. I spent a looong time watching him cutting meat, watching his nice kitchen, every details.
I saw he had a female troll cooking with him and I really loved the way she looked : Red rasta dreadlocks and dressed with the Ethiopian flag colors.
Her name is Misensi, hehe, really loved that name too.

Then I had a déjà vu feeling... As I practiced tonight some rastafarian meditation while playing, I was certain it was nothing.
But unusually this déjà vu lasted.
I knew that I once created a similar reggae troll female for the 420 section of Never Stay Tuned 2. This blue skin troll with green, yellow and red outfit was such a pain to chroma key that I sure remember her, but not every details. I wanted to check how close Misensi was to my troll.

AND OMFG ! THAT'S HER...

Now I really need to cut down on video games for good and look for a good therapist.

Just a little post to celebrate the end of the bug !

As I already told you, I suck at understanding what's going on inside a computer, so I'll probably suck at explaining how the bug died. I'll try
After deleting and reinstalling different version of my graphic card drivers (a very old one, an old ones and the last one) without any changes, I decided to just delete the drivers and to reboot...
I was expecting something like a 800x600 display with 8 colors, but it seems like everything was fine, my desktop was looking good, I tried the viewer... And the bug is gone.
I wanted to be sure so I tried every softwares I could to check if there was no other problem.
AND THERE ISN'T ANY !!

Even if I had a plan B, this bug was stuck in my head, forcing me to think about it when all I needed was ideas and focus for the concert video.

After days of a terrible war, help from many machinima armies... the bug won...
I'll have to brainwash my laptop.

Certainely a personal virus sent by the Sinatras or the Carpenters.

Everything I tried made it even more intriguing for la crème of the geeks.
OK then.

I've been cleaning my old PC, I just kept an old WoW, an old wowmodelviewer and Fraps. Enough to capture what I'll need too for this actual project. Once it will be done, I'll have to format the laptop drive wich is to me a real trauma since I suck at saving datas and installing systems, pilots etc...

Dalaran, Azeroth's thyroid gland.

I've been working on the story board, got a lot of work with this concert in Dalaran. Why did I choose the most laggy city of the game ? Anyway, I cheated, no more outdoor concert, I found a place that will be even better with less polygons to calculate. But don't tell anyone it's not in Dalaran, at least don't tell any roleplayers.

Most of the people in Dalaran have come here from the far
to try to make enough gold to go back to Ironforge...
on a motorcycle or a giant mammoth.

There wille be 3 songs in the movie, each one with a very different feeling. First one will be about traveling, second one about technology and the last about small people who lost their city... 12 minutes, I can tell you that the storyboard is quite scary and the ideas that may come in the editing will make it even longer.
As if I needed them now, many ideas are also coming for futur machinimas, an intrusive one about Awilo as the main character, many stupid clip ideas for NST4, some copyrighted music videos I'd like to do too... Many mental storyboards haunting me but first, this concert, I promised.

N33D H3LP ! I've been pwnz0red by a bug

Die bug DIE !

Ohhh how I hate that. You know when things are going wrong and there's no reason for that.

First, I had the sad surprise to see that even my roxxor laptop can't run wow and record video at the same time. Well it can but with every video settings down to the ground and only 10-20 frames per second + a few freezes.But that's ok, I 've been used to record at less than 5 frames per seconds with my old PC, speeding things up and deleting freezed frames one by one. I can deal with that.

But now is another problem, much much more annoying.
Wowmodelviewer bugs...

What is quite strange to me is that it happens :
- with the actual version of the viewer + the wotlk I'm playing daily without any bug.
- with an older wow (2.4.3) + wmv 0.5.09b, on a separate hard drive (was working fine for "Le Terrorist").
Clothes are totally bugged too, same bug as for characters, textures are the right ones but "missplaced", like several time the same piece of mapping repeated.
When I browse NPC's, the color of their skin is pitch black.
Objects, spells, items, creatures and world seem to be ok though. I can make a 100% murlocs movie whenever I want to.

Iknow I've been a naughty boy and I've been playing with textures...
But I never touched any WoW files, just using Texmod that finds, saves and modifys Direct3D textures in DirectX applications. Benefits are that you don't have to modify any files of your application's installation and you don't need any game specific modding tools. I can't see why this utility would affect wowmodelviewer this way. Once again, thanks Mekkatorke, WoW works fine without any texture bugs.

The worst thing is I don't know shit about the way wowmodelviewer and textures work. I asked and searched around and it seems to be an like an orphan disease...

I'll keep on searching, a little more delay before next machinima.

Another bad news is Youtube that is taking down some of my machinimas for copyrighted reasons. First it was "Why Do Birds" and now it's "Something Stupid". I guess both the Carpenters and the Sinatras needed money for the cryochamber and they might have thought I was stealing from them.

Let's end with 2 GOOD NEWS !
It's been now a month that "The Terrorist" is featured in the french Youtube iPhone selection !

And there's now an Olibith group on Facebook, thanks a lot to Joanna and the 19 members !!!

Feels good after 3 month living in a warzone breathing white dust and smelling solvants.
Just when the New Wowmodelviewer is finally out and working ! Just great.

I'm now working for one of the biggest Star of Azeroth !
For some contractual reason, I can not mention any name yet, all I can tell you is that it's gonna be a live concert in Dalaran. The video is gonna be about this special evening but also about the Star ; the little moments I'll be able to witness and all those fans from all over the world (of Warcraft).

Yep that's a lot of gnomes, but never enough to me.

From a machinima point of view, I plan on testing a lot of new tools and tricks with this video.
I got to create a huge crowd, well as big as I can, I need smooth and wide camera moves, some textures might need a little relooking and of course the scenery with lights and effects... So, of course, there will be lot's of things to learn and many problems to solve for me, so I can't give any release estimation now. I'll have to watch several concert video to dig for ideas and things to spoof, as usual. Any propositions on what I should watch is welcome^^.

AFK pl@yers did it again with an hilarious machinima, a channel surfing in the world of Warcraft.
This concept sounds familiar to me and I really love what they did with it, once again their editing is perfect.

OMG they killed Olibith !

Wrath of a Couch Potato is amazingly funny and you really got to check this out !
If you look closer, there's a chance you'll see a purple turban in a usual dying cameo. Another reason for the Gnome to be proud !

I really loved the TeleZombies part like everyone I guess, but everything in this machinima is so well done that it's hard to choose the part you prefer.

Places I absolutely got to check before machinimating...

Yep, I should be machinimating right now, I got a PC on a desk (mmmh HP Dragon) with a chair in front of it and most people would not see any reason why I'm not already making a new video.

But I've been computerless since 4 month now, that means I've missed so many things... First of all, Wrath of the Lich King. How can I seriously machinimate anything WoW related if I've never been in Northrend ? So right now I'm leveling the Gnome (lvl73). And Santa is surely gonna bring me 2008 games I did not have time to play yet, like Fallout3, Bioshock (yep I'm very late I know), Farcry2, Resistance2, Dead Space or even Little Big Planet ("Uncharted" is now platinium Santa and I've never played it !)... Who knows ?

What ?? Clothes ?? What kind of present is that ? Clothes ??

My love for video games, wich is one of the reason I machinimate, will be the reason why I'm not machinimating during december.

There's a video I promised to make, a sexy curvy pop star from Azeroth asked me for something and that will be my next machinima. So Never Stay Tuned 4 will have to wait a little.

No way I can take computers out of boxes yet, there's still a lot of things to sand in this "new" appartment and I don't want any white dust in my future machinimas... I still have neither desk nor chair yet anyway and the whole renovating trip seems to me like never ending. Can you believe that ? I guess now having a machinima contest without a +3000$ first price will be impossible.
This week end came 3 splendid new movies, Martin Falch's Divided Soul, Fireboltproductions "Way of Life" and Pinkhair's "The Robber Baron of Warsong Gulch".

I never thought seeing a NPC could make my heart beat so fast...

I can't believe it yet, just saw that in the forums a few hours ago and I'm totally nuts since.
Yes, the gnome eater, the Cook, teh Troll IS an actual NPC in Dalaran city (horde side) and he's nothing less than the Grand Master Cooking Trainer. And if that wasn't enough, he's named after a great african musician Awilo Longomba, if you saw the machinimas you sure know why.
I've been told that Oxhorn also got one of his character in WOTLK and there are rumors about the Baron also having his own reference in Valgarde, wich I really hope.
For several reasons I cannot see the NPC in the beta and get a closer screenshot yet, be sure I'll upload it asap.

Time, space, matter and a gnome

The device has been modified

I'm about half way through this video, now called "Le Terroriste" !
There will be a lot of talking and yep, still in French. For those having problems reading subtitles and watching at the same time, I will this time, and this time only, let you watch the movie as many time as you want. I just found the music in Wrath of the Lich King's beta datas, this one is very different from any other WoW music, very creepy. Almost every sounds comes from Mass Effect and WoW but the noise of the spaceship is homemade by recording nothing and playing with the sound till it sounds good... Well I hope so.

Man, the camera operator was very very small...

With this Dragon laptop, I'm able to watch a live preview of the movie while editing it. I don't have time to smoke anything that aint already rolled, what was taking me 10 minutes to render now takes me one. I can render several effects and layers of all kinds at the same time and you know what ? It works !!! I can finally work with uncompressed videos so this will be the first time I'll have to encode this kind of monster... I'll ask my technical guru about that.
Editing has changed 100% compare to what it was with my old piece of junk. WoW's framerate is 12fps no more and is now indecent. I've been a little into After Effects during this quiet summer at work, it's a very rich tool that is not noob friendly at all. I will just use it for the credits and wait to know a little more about it before "thinking AE" from the begining.
I also tried a very popular software that moves lips and it's not Singstar, there's will be some of my first tries in Le Terroriste. Should be done in time for the Wegame august contest I'll be able this time to show the movie instantly after it's done.

Yep, I know.
I was not supposed to have any time to machinimate this summer.
But things were not exactly what I wanted them to be and I got to wait until the end of the month to get in my new appartment and begin to work.
So, as I needed to think about something else, I began a new project.
It will be in french since I wanted to have the soundtrack as soon as possible. So I recorded the voices myself. There will be english subtitles that the wonderful Vilaeryn already translated for me.
I asked Phil Rice to show me the Mass Effect door, I'm so thankful he shared his precious knowledge with me. The characters will come from World of Warcraft though, but the story will take place in space.
Don't want to tell you anything about it yet, might be a drama, maybe a very very sad one that will make you cry...
Haha, no way.
If I can edit it before the end of the month, it will be my entry to the Wegame august machinima contest.

Baron Soosdon and Pinkhair just did what is now my favorite machinima ever !
Olibith is part of it as a character but believe me, this doesn't have anything to do with my love for this movie. It totally explodes everything I saw before.
This movie is called "BUSTED" and is part of the WarcraftMovies.com Synergy contest.
Ok I always love Soosdon's work, but this time it's really haunting me... Almost too perfect to be true. So much knowledge of the tools, so much ideas...This also is a wonderful tribute to machinima with too many references to be listed. And, best of all, it's damn funny and witty.

In my humble opinion, hm hm... Machinima just jumped from Voyage dans la Lune to Minority Report with this movie !!!

Poor Snacky already saw earth getting smaller and smaller before...

Pinkhair is now doing pure magic with his 3D skills and Caruu did an unbelievable job with the sound design. Respect and my best congatulations to everyone who worked on Busted...

As I told the Baron, after this movie there's only 2 options :
- Wow machinima is dead and no one will ever dare being compare to this.
- Machinima will get so much better in the coming months that cinema will soon dissapear...

As I told you, there comes the time for me to fix, rearrange and decorate my new appartment, so there won't be any machinimas until it's done, I've moved in, my internet works fine, the fridge is full and I took a bath. Might be september, might be later.
It's tough because I really wanted so badly to really test this new computer, I already tried a few things to check if everything was working. It works like magic.
But, life is sweet, it will be a good thing to cool down the gnome a few month, there are things that are truly heating the turban those days.

Another award today !!! that's embarrassing, people may thing I cheat...

One day after release, I'm getting better things are slowing down. Excellent feedback from everywhere especially France, my kinky country.

I got teh HDX Dragon !

This 14 pounds "laptop", WWI Best Movie award price, made it to my appartment, that's an amazing machine and I'm SO happy.
Man, what a monster ! I never saw WoW running so good, even Shattrath does not lag at all !!!
So before being totally relax, I had to install WoW, wowmodelviewer and wowmapviewer and see if Vista was not too difficult with them.
And everything works fine !
I now have no more excuses not to learn After Effect and I'll be able to edit several layer at the same time in Vegas or even capture video ingame with more than 10 fps !!!!!
Can't tell you how glad the gnome is.
This machinima PC comes just when I'll have to move to the new place and I'll have to wait until at least september before I can edit anything again. But with this laptop, even in the worst mess I'll still be able to learn some AE tutorials.
Add to this PC a Nokia cellphone price of the fake commercial award, a roxxor quadcore Intel processor price for Best Editing Award and 3 years of WoW !!!, one year for each award.
Gonna do all I can to be fair with my co-workers on this project.

Good good good good Vibrations

Well now time for the answers, going back to Paris was as weird as I thought. Feeling like home but at the same time so many thing changed since I used to live there. I arrived at 2pm on saturday an missed the Diablo 3 presentation and the opening ceremony. :(
I was like two tramway stations away from the WWI when I saw people wearing a Blizzard T-shirts with a pass on the chest. And as I was getting closer to the event, there was more and more of them !
This saturday afternoon was a total madness, so many people queuing hours for everything the WWI had to offer. I did not queue because I was supposed to meet Daghorn and Romain from Blizzard France at the costume contest booth. I can tell you that everyone at Blizzard was under pressure, working very hard for this event.
Daghorn and Romain were both totally cool making me feel confortable instantly.
The first quest they gave me at 3 pm was to be right here at 6 pm to get instructions about the award ceremony because I was one of the machinima contest winner... ! That sure was a good thing to hear.

Did not knew Peter Tosh had a daughter with Diablo.

So I decided to take a walk inside the crowd but after a few meters, I realize that it was maybe not the best time of the week end to enjoy the place and I've been in a bar.
Yeah, I told you before, the question was will I be able to understand people speaking english to me if I am drunk enough to talk to them ?
But the true question was : How many beers do I need to feel fine with the idea of talking to 5000 gamers dressed as an ogre ?
No impossible, I lost my thong in the train while showing my costume.
I wont tell you how many liters it took but I remember this magic glass of beer that made everything look so easy. I don't drink usually, like never, and I can't figure out why because it's damn fun cheap and legal.
At 6pm I was at the rendez vous point, surrounded by people in costumes looking all so great. There was so many ideas and time in each of those costumes that I felt pretty sad that only 3 of them would win the contest.
Beer you know.
And there was Daghorn ! telling me that my next quest would be to make a hardcore porn machinima with motion capture. No he did not told me that, he told me to make sure to be right here at 7pm, that was my new quest.

I believe in light, please confess me.

I started thinking about this magic beer nostalgicaly, so I decided to have a last one before the show. Yep, I was feeling quite anguished by all this, focusing on this enormous crowd more than anything else.

Came the time of the dance and costume contests. Man, this is great, really and the audience really enjoy that. Costumes were great and dancers were very fun to see. And Bang ! was time to run to the backstage, fan art and machinima winners. My beer shield was working just fine, not enough to change the way I walked but enough to forget about the crowd for good.

Joeyray Hall gave me the Best Editing Award !!! I also knew that he was the president of the machinima jury for this contest. To keep it short, I was really honored. I received this glass cube with a 3d murloc curved inside... Legendary loot !

I had to say something in the microphone, just in front of me was Mike Morhaime, I said something like :
"Thanks Blizzard for letting us having fun and play your game the way we like to and, thanks to leave many doors opened in your future games so we can get in to make movies."
I don't think I need beer to sound cheesy you already know that.
Handshakes then backstages with a wide wide smile on my face.

Next thing I know, a crew member grabed me and told me to go back on stage, he also told me this : This was a good idea he had walking through the wood... Wich you'll understand once you The Bountiful Chest is released. That was a very funny and cheering thing to say !^^
And then again, on stage !!
A bit stunned, winning this time the Best Movie Award...man... Another glass murloc this time twice bigger than the first !
A legendary loot in each hand !!! From there it was kinda blurry with light and happiness.

That's when I had to speak english :) We decided fist, to check if there was any T8 epic private party we can join then the guys asked me for a cool place to eat something with bars around.
I decided that Bastille would be a nice place to go. That's about when my headache started.
They wanted to eat french, we ended in a mexican bar because we refused to wait 90 minutes for snails and frogs boiled in red wine.
Dopefish and the Baron are both crazy with a true personnal touch, I guess that's our connection.
We had a great time but you'll not see any photos of them here, I do it for readers to stay as long as possible on this page. But I'm sure the masochist in you will look every blogs of the community.^^
Gedan and Uzbeki are very cool guys, it was a real pleasure to meet them all.
I had to leave them at midnight. Very long day, very heavy trophies, my feet were starting to glow red and I wanted to catch last subway.

I spent last day with them, doing what people are supposed to do in such an event : have fun and hang around, drink sodas. It maybe was a good thing that my pay wasn't wired yet to my account, lots of tentations there.

This first price HP Dragon laptop is amazing, I saw it in the HP booth and I've been reading about it whenever I had 5 minutes to today. Every tests says that the only problem with this laptop would be the price :) I can't wait to check this monster ! Maybe next week !
It will take me a few day more to realize, the release of the movie will soon help.
The Gnome is very very very happy.

Man, that's a goody bag !

It's been years since I did not saw Paris, going back there for Blizzard WWI is quite special.
And I've never been to any nerd meeting in my life, I don't even have any video game soundtrack in my mp3 player ! Will there be places where you can buy beers inside ?

Made it just in time, once again thank so much to Vilaeryn and Shockdingo for helping me so much !! Now just have to wait, I uploaded, trailer, movie and fake ad to the contest.

But I guess I'm not tired yet... Don't have the time to machinimate another movie but, hey : got time for little tests !

I downloaded Spore Creature Creator demo tonight... Not to play it, have fun, chill and waste my time ohh no no no ! I did it with total devotion to art and machinima.

I don't want any pothead comments here, my god, drugs make you see drugs everywhere...

This game looks great, creating a living thing is a great fun and the possibilities are amazing. With just a bit of changes, it could be a very good machinima tool.
There is a video capture feature ingame but there's not much you can do with it, definition is just good enough for youtube. You can't hide the interface to capture with fraps, the camera is locked centered on the creature,you can just turn around, zoom in/out
Sporemodelviewer could be great.

I'm not sure there will be another machinima soon, I'm about to have a pretty busy life during this summer, like renovating and moving in an new but old appartment (1980 grandma's style) or drawings 20 pages for a technical book about plants. And my graphic designer contract ends after 8 month the 11th of July, so there's a chance I have to find a new job too.

Blizzard just hit the european machinima community with a damn good contest !
A bit less than a month to make a 4 minute movie, what is really great is that there's total freedom, could be a comedy, a drama.. Anything we want except copyrighted material other than Blizzard property. That leaves a wide choice we're not use to in such contest.

A second contest is about making a 40 seconds max machinima TV advertisement about any WoW item. This also is a great idea giving a lot of freedom to machinimakers.

I'm sure the competition will be very hard, there'll be a lot of us wanting this wonderful laptop PC that is pretty much what anyone would need to make great machinimas.
So I took Vilaeryn and Shockdingo by my side and now comes the time to machinimate again.

I'll not post here any screens or infos about this video, I'll just make sure that, for once, It can be rated T for Teen... That could be the hardest part. The script is already written, Vil will have to rewrite the lines and make a few voice acting, Shock will have to perform the rest of the lines.
Then, I should be ok to begin editing.

All I can tell you is that it's gonna be a comedy.

I was almost sure to have issues with the use of random japanese words and cliche.
And nope, 0.001% of this video created a lot of reactions.
On youtube, most of the comments are about them and people don't really get the point or at least find this funny.

So now that I did something that needed a lot of thinking (hahaha.. Hmmm) let's do something twice as dumb without any sense !! If I edit it fast and release it right after NST3, people might forgive me who knows ?

I've been trying to machinimate inside an Unreal3 map. But the framerate, even with low settings, was too low to capture a video. So I just did a lot of good quality screenshots of the place that I'll use as backgrounds. I have to do that a lot, sometimes even with WoW.

So it's gonna be a japanese movie.

As usually, everytime I'm done with editing a video, my PC reminds me that even when I bought it 3 years ago, it already was a shitty machine. So I got a very nice bugs panel since 24h, image freezing without any reason in the final rendering, Vegas freezing in the middle of the rendering, sounds saturation, corrupted videos in the timeline etc... Last videos I did, I thought it was due to a lack of hardrive space when I come to the end of the work, but now that I have +200go free, I must face that it's not.
NST3 should have been live tomorrow, I guess it will take a little longer...

Started editing NST3 last week, well, I got the intro done, the music for the credits choosen and some ideas for next scenes !
